Presents recent advances in sensors, image processing algorithms, and systems for image recognition and classification for applications in the military, aerospace, security, radar, biomedical, and intelligent transport fields. The approaches focus on nonlinear image filtering, statistical theory, Bayesian detection theory, neural networks, and 3D imaging. Topics of the 15 papers include edge detection and location in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images, electro-optical correlators for 3D pattern recognition, a distortion tolerant image recognition receiver using a multi-hypothesis method, and pattern recognition tools based on the automatic spatial frequency selection algorithm.
