Advancing Scientific Research in Education
Committee on Research in Education, National Research Council, Lisa Towne, Lauress L. Wise, Tina M. Winters
In an effort to improve the quality of scientific education research, this report addresses such key issues such as peer review, randomized field trials, improved doctoral programs for educational leadership within the general goals of promoting quality in research, building the knowledge base, and enhancing professional development. Their recommendations include encouraging federal agencies that support education research to clearly delineate the criteria for peer review and demand rigorous methods and appropriate resources for research, that journals require authors to make relevant data available to other researchers, and that schools of education design curricula better articulate the competencies in research candidates should have and should supply relevant experience in research.
